HanseBird takes places on the premises of Wasserkunst Elbinsel Kaltehofe. While the fairground is outdoors, there are large tents with solid wooden floors for all exhibitors and presentations.

The fairground is designed without barriers for people with impairments or disabilities. The outdoor areas are flat and without steps. Inside the buildings a lift connects all levels including the restaurant and toilets. Folding chairs can be rented free of charge. Guide dogs for the blind are allowed on the premises.

Entrance fees

The ticket price for one day is 5 Euro (normal) or 3,80 Euro (reduced for NABU-members, students, apprentices and people with disabilities - please bring your ID). Entrance for children under 12 years is free of charge. 2-day-tickets are available for 9 Euro (normal) and 6,50 Euro (reduced).

The entrance fee covers all costs including presentations and workshops. On Sunday the entry to "Wasserforum" is included as well.

Registration for workshops and activities

To give all visitors a fair chance in participating in the activities at HanseBird we don't take registrations in advance. Please register directly at the fair.

The restaurant of Wasserkunst Elbinsel Kaltehofe offers hot and cold food as well as drinks. On the premises there will be food trucks catering drinks and food as well.

Dogs are allowed on the premises but must be on a leash at all times.

Which birds can be seen on Kaltehofe?

All birds on the island of Kaltehofe and the surrounding areas are wild animals so there is no guarantee to see certain species. However it is quite likely to spot oystercatcher, common shelduck, grey heron, cormorant, little grebe, great crested grebe, Eurasian coot as well as different kind of ducks and geese. The island is home to many singing birds which may be seen. Swifts often fill the air in June and show off their flying skills. If you have your binoculars - or even better a spotting scope - with you, check out the mud flats of nearby Holzhafen for wading birds. During summer the water basins of Wasserkunst Elbinsel Kaltehofe are also ideal places to listen to the chorus of frogs.
